What will you study?

- Local, national, international and global areas of interest
- Current and future study and employment
Spanish is the official language of 21 countries, many of which are economically well
developed. People from these countries are likely to be business associates or colleagues in
your future career. Also, Spanish is the second most common first language across the
world and the second language of the USA.
Why should I choose Spanish?
- The UK’s international education body highlights Spanish as the most important
foreign language to learn - What’s more, last year UK’s international education body calculated that only four
percent of the UK population could speak Spanish fluently. This means that a
commitment to learning Spanish would set you in really good stead when it comes
to employment - Language GCSE - favoured by Universities
- A GCSE in a language is a great qualification to add to your CV
- Using a language at work could raise your salary from 8 - 20%
- Additionally, if you achieve a language GCSE alongside two sciences, one humanities,
English and Maths, you’ll be bagging yourself an English Baccalaureate certificate,
which demonstrates that you’re a well-rounded student - Spanish vocabulary and grammar also share similarities to Portuguese and Italian,
making it quite the investment when it comes to learning languages - Knowing Spanish will seriously enhance your travelling experiences - you can
understand and talk to lots more people when you go abroad - Speaking more than one language increases your brain capacity, improves your
memory and you'll be at less risk of developing Alzheimer’s - Learning languages really improves your communication skills
Career possibilities?
There are many things you can do with a GCSE in Spanish. You can choose to continue
with the study of Spanish by taking AS in the Sixth Form or continue with it again at
University. Understanding another language can also help you teach English as a foreign
language and to teach or tutor in schools and other institutions in or outside the UK. You
can also work in hospitality - leisure and tourism, media and advertising, public sector,
retail etc.
