Assessment: 60% Coursework, 40% Examination

What will you study?

If you take this course you will get to learn about a wide range of musical styles. You'll
get plenty of opportunities to make your own music, and learn to track your own
progress as a musician.

Who might enjoy this course?

Anyone who enjoys playing, listening or composing music. If you like the idea of
investigating lots of different musical styles and making your own music, this is the
course for you.

What about exams?

There is no written exam. However, one of your units is done as a timed assessment
over a series of weeks. You will have plenty of time to prepare for this, and we will go
through it once as a ‘dry run’ in Year 11 with a sample paper.

What about coursework?

This makes up 60% of the final mark and is based on two units.

The first unit assesses your knowledge about a wide range of musical styles (which are
covered throughout the course). The second unit is based on your skills as a musician,
tracking your development and showing progress with your music. This could be
based on you being a performer, or a producer.

What other skills might I develop?

Apart from the normal musical skills, you will also develop the skills of co-ordination,
team work, evaluation, decision making, self-confidence, and sensitivity. You will learn
how to use music production software effectively.
