What will you study?

You have to study Using and Applying Mathematics, Number and Algebra,
Geometry and Statistics. You will investigate the application of these in real life
contexts and look for interconnecting patterns between them. You will strengthen
your numeracy, calculating skills and mathematical thinking as you understand
better how mathematics is a present reality in all daily life.

Will you enjoy this course?

There is a satisfaction that only Math’s can give, particularly when you have worked
hard to understand a topic that you initially found difficult! You are required to take
this course because a solid understanding of the subject will not only help prepare
you for later life but will also be highly valued by potential employers. Colleges, Sixth
Forms and Apprenticeships require a minimum of Grade 4 in order to avoid re-sitting
the subject.

What about exams?

The GCSE course has three written papers; one is non-calculator and the other two are
calculator papers.

What about coursework?

There is no formally assessed coursework as part of the Mathematics GCSE course.
However, in the process of learning Mathematics, students will be required to
complete a number of home learning tasks.

Are there any other tests apart from the final exams?

There are class tests every half term to assess and inform progress. Feedback
from the tests enables students to understand the areas of the syllabus they have
understood well and those which will require more work to improve understanding.
