History

Year 7

Students study the following topics; Political Power Pre-1066, The Norman Conquest (how political power changed, e.g. Feudal system and Domesday book), Crusades and religion in medieval England (How strong was people’s faith in the Middle Ages?), The Making of the UK (How England attempted to conquer Wales, Ireland and Scotland), The Black Death and the Peasants Revolt, The Hundred Years War (How English Kings tried to expand their political power and will on France).

Year 8

Students study the following topics; The English Reformation and Renaissance (how Henry VIII created the Church of England and the impact it had on England along with the Renaissance), The English Civil War and Interregnum (how the King lost the war and how Oliver Cromwell ruled in his place), Local History Study (Siege of Colchester), Transatlantic Slave Trade, The Industrial Revolution and its impact on society (students look at how Britain became industrialised and the impact of the Luddites and Chartists) and The Creation of the British Empire (how Britain conquered India and Africa).

Year 9

Students study the following topics; The USA 1919-41 (American society and how it was impacted on by the depression), War and the Transformation of Britain 1931-51 (how Britain coped in the interwar years and its role in the Second World War).

Year 10

Students study the following topics; War and the Transformation of Britain 1931-1951 (how Britain coped in the interwar years and its role in the Second World War), The Cold War (Superpower relations) and Government protest in the USA 1945-1970 (civil rights movement in America).

Year 11

Students complete their controlled assessment and revise and practice for exams on the subjects of History of Medicine and American West.
