Sport

 

Vision

Here at Colchester Academy we strive to enhance students' passion gained during their Key Stage 3 and outside experiences of PE and utilise this within this vocational qualification. This course is ideal for students who aspire to have a career in the sporting sector and support those who want to move on to further education in a sports context. We aspire to create excellence in a full range of knowledge and skills which will drive them to be independent and confident learners. 

 

Key Stage 4

The two year course is set up to equip students with resilience, through the range of examination and assignment style writing that the course consists of. Through the range of units students will have an in-depth understanding of how our bodies, minds and skills work together to create the perfect sports person. This will help them apply the skills learnt to their chosen contexts in both theoretical and practical ways. The course works through three core elements; preparing participants to take part in sport and physical activity, taking part and improving other participants sporting performances dn developing fitness to improve other participants performance in sport and physical activity. Due to this course’s split of assignment, practical and exam styles it enables students to work independently, whilst becoming resilient learners striving for excellence along the way. 

 

Year 10

Topics Covered:

Autumn

  • Component 1: Preparing participants to take part in sport and physical activity - Learning aim A: explore types and provision of sport and physical activity for different types of participant
  • Component 1: Preparing participants to take part in sport and physical activity - Learning aim B: Examine equipment and technology required for participants to use when taking part in sport and physical activity

Spring

  • Component 1: Preparing participants to take part in sport and physical activity - Learning aim C: Be able to prepare participants to take part in sport and physical activity
  • Component 1 Final Tasks
  • Component 1 submission (60 Marks)
  • Component 2: Taking part and improving other participants sporting performance - Learning aim A: Understand how different components of fitness are used in different physical activities

Summer

  • Component 2: Taking part and improving other participants sporting performance - Learning aim B Be able to participate in sport and understand the roles and responsibilities of officials
  • Component 2: Taking part and improving other participants sporting performance - Learning aim C: Demonstrate ways to improve participants sporting techniques

 

Year 11

Autumn

  • Component 2 Final Tasks
  • Component 2 Submission (60 marks)
  • Component 3: Developing fitness to improve other participants performance in sport and physical activity - Learning aim A: Explore the importance of fitness for sports performance
  • Component 3: Developing fitness to improve other participants performance in sport and physical activity - Learning aim B: Investigate fitness testing to determine fitness levels

Spring

  • Component 3: Developing fitness to improve other participants performance in sport and physical activity - Learning aim C: Investigate different fitness training methodsComponent 3: Developing fitness to improve other participants performance in sport and physical activity - Learning aim D: Investigate fitness programming to improve fitness and sports performance 

Summer

  • Component 3 Final Exam
