Spanish

Year 7

Students cover the topics of My Life, Free Time, School and Education, Family and Friends and Where I Live. Through these topics students learn about the culture of and issues affecting the Spanish speaking world. There will also be a focus on literature in the target language with students working on poems and short stories.

Year 8

Students continue to develop the language skills they gained in Year 7 with an emphasis on becoming confident language speakers and writers in the past, present and future tenses. Students cover the topics of Holidays, My Life, Food and Drink, Free Time and Plans for the summer. Through these topics students learn about the culture of and issues affecting the Spanish speaking world. There is also a focus on literature in the target language with students working on poems and short stories and producing their own literature in the target language.

Year 9

Students become familiar with the requirements of AQA GCSE Spanish. They cover the topics of Holidays, Leisure Time, School and Education, Plans for the Future, Work and Where I Live. Students are able to communicate in the past, present and future tenses and prepare for and complete a series of mock controlled assessments in speaking and writing and receive detailed feedback on their performance to prepare them for Year 10.

Years 10 and 11

Students studying GCSE Spanish covers the topics of ‘work and education’, ‘home and environment’ and ‘holidays’. Students prepare for and complete controlled assessments in speaking and writing and are taught specific exam techniques and complete mock exams in reading and listening.
